In my home, teaching reading is a difficult task. With a 6 year old autistic child, repetition is key. But with that same 6 year old having ADHD entertainment is key. How to you get a child with attention deficit and a learning disability to read? Red Apple Reading makes learning fun. The ability to set a learning level makes it easier to take a step backwards for those children that are not at age level learning. The fun characters help keep kids interested in continuing the program. Personally, my son has no idea the game is about learning. We just tell him it is a game and he can have 30 minutes of game time after school and he thinks it is a reward for behaving at school.

If you have a child that is struggling to keep up with reading or has a disability that makes learning a little more difficult, this is the way to go. As a parent, you should be prepared to get involved in the program with your child. This will not replace you as a teacher. It is just an additional tool for an extra boost in the right direction. My thoughts:

This is a fun new app that will keep your child learning while having fun. I had a difficult time getting my child to use the app unless I was sitting right next to him while he was “playing.” That is not anything new in my home though.  

It is always worth my time to know that I am helping my child learn just by sitting next to them playing a fun and engaging app.

Know that there are distractions in the game. The fish that jump around will cause your child to focus on them. I actually found that this was helpful in teaching my child to ignore distractions. After several attempts and redirection, he was able to continue playing without focusing on the fish.

Children Learning Reading

Having a young child in my home with learning disabilities, learning to read has proven to be very difficult. I know that there are hundreds of programs out there to teach a child to read. Choosing the right one will vary from child to child and parent to parent. When I was given an opportunity to try the Children Learning Reading program in exchange for a review I was very excited.

I have always tried to be creative at hiding education in repetitious but fun activities. When I started to use the program, I was hoping for an easy program with step-by-step learning. That is exactly what I received. The program requires a lot of parental involvement, so do not think that your child will learn while you are off doing the dishes. You will need to sit down and take a little time each day.

After using the program for 30 to 45 minutes each night for the last 2 weeks, I have noticed a definite difference in my child's ability to recognize simple words. This is not a instant miracle cure, but you and your child will definitely benefit from the easy to follow steps if you put in a little effort each night.

Alphabet Flash Cards Review

As a parent of a child that has special needs, I am always looking for fun new ways to educate him. Not only do I struggle with his limited memory retention, but I also struggle with absence episodes, hyperactivity, and the inability for him to concentrate. The need for repetition in my household is high, but I really need help being creative and making learning fun too.

Using the Alphabet Flash Cards has been fun and easy to use. With a parent card and both capital and lowercase letters, I could teach in small segments to restrict the amount of new information. I know that sounds wrong, but it I provide too much information he get very frustrated and shuts down.

All of the flash cards have a nice big letter and a word starting with that letter on one side and a picture of the item on the other side. I started with the pictures since his level is around a 3 year old level. We have been practicing saying the words of the items in the pictures and then showing the letter on the other side. He is able to say most of the words correctly and we are working on recognising and saying the letters now.

Flash cards have always been a great learning tool and the Alphabet Flash Cards that I received are no different. I am very happy with the simplicity of the cards and the quality of the individual cards.

Reading Kingdom Review

As a parent, I know that early learning is essential. Now that I have first hand experience with a special needs child, I know that early learning requires repetition and ease.  I am always on the hunt for a program that will fit into my families schedule and requirements. Sometimes I feel that I am a little strict on my requirements since I need to educate a special needs child. But, I know that I am not the only parent out there that requires a modified educational program.
