Baby Proofing U Shape Edge Guards

In my home I have heavy furniture. The is a set of marble topped tables in my living room and a glass top table in my family room. For some reason they seem to be magnets for my children, I cannot tell you how many times my kids have bumped into my coffee table or end tables causing little goose eggs to form on the little foreheads. It has been a never ending battle.

I had a change to receiving a set of baby proofing edge guards for free in order to give my honest opinion of them. So here it goes:

First off, let me commend this company for knowing that not everything in my house is black and white. There is a full array of colors available to attempt to blend in, or even stand out from your everyday furniture.

The edge guards are a soft foam material and easy to slide on to the edge of most surfaces. This particular edge guard is a "U" shape so it does not fit easily on to a wider surface. This really requires a thinner table top. It worked perfectly on my glass top table that is about 1/2 inch thick. It did not work well on my marble top tables that are closer to 2 inches thick. It was stretched a little to much and just did not provide the security that I was looking for on the marble table.

The edge guards go on easily  but that means they also come off easily. Little fingers grab and pull then the edge guard will end up being not so effective. I found that the opening (where the two ends meet) should be away from the reach of my children at all times. Less access o the opening, meant the edge guards stayed on.

All in all, I think that this is great product to protect from unwanted bumps and bruises. i would like to see a way to keep it in place a little better though.

Product description from the manufacturer:

Baby Proofing Table Edge Protector
The glass coffee table at home maybe one of the most dangerous furniture for the baby. This U Shape table edge protector guard gives you excellent impact absorption and protect your loved ones against bumps, bruises, cuts from hard, sharp edges and corners. With the 3M double side tape included, this product can be easily applied to the glass table. This product is completely toxic free, which is ideal for baby proofing purpose.

My Little Big Pillow Review #mylittlebigpillow

Disclaimer: I received the product described below at no charge or a reduced price to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.

Before receiving and trying the My Little big Pillow
I never thought about a pillow for my toddler. She always snuggled up to her blanket and appeared comfortable.

Now that I have introduced the My Little Big Pillow to my two-year-old, I will never get it back! She loves it. She immediately took to the pillow. As a mom, I was a little nervous giving a pillow to a toddler, but so far so good. Besides, how can I go wrong with an organic memory foam pillow.

The case that comes with the pillow is soft! I actually thought that there was not a case since the zipper was so well hidden. The pillow really is the perfect size for a little head. It is really too small to fit in a standard pillow case, but in order to coordinate and keep the pillow clean, I tucked it inside a standard case.

Product Description from Snugg Organic:
Organic premium shredded latex pillow for toddlers and children age 2+. shredded latex is the most premium filling for pillows and that's why we have decided to use it as a filling for our children's pillows. 'My Little Big
Pillow' has been designed to provide the optimum sleep for children. Its perfect size means it is not too small like most other toddler pillows, yet still the right depth to provide the correct support for your little ones head, neck and spine. It comes with an organic soft cotton case, is hypoellergenic, dust mite resistant and durable. Each pillow has a lifelong gurantee.

Tommee Tippee 360° sealer™ Diaper Disposal System Review

Exclusively at Babies“R”Us, the 360° sealer™ individually seals each dirty diaper to help lock in odor

I have never used a diaper disposal system before the  Tommee Tippee 360° sealer™  so I had not expectations. Not that I like going out to the garbage can everytime my child poops, but I have not had any other experiences.

When the Tommee Tippee 360° sealer™  arrived, I was ready to get started. In fact, I was so ready, I forgot to read the instructions (OOPS!). Fortunately, instructions are not really required. Overall it only took about a minute to set up the refill and have the Tommee Tippee 360° sealer ready to go.

Now it is time for the big test....the poopy diaper test! After dropping in a dirty diaper and a twist of the knob, I was done. Yup, that really is all there was to it. Well, I am still repeating these steps since the dirty diapers have not stopped, but it is so easy that I do not mind.

Inside view. Drop a diaper in!

The plastic refill does not seem like it would do much since it is so thin, but it really does trap in the odor. The only time I noticed any form of "stink" is when I went to dump the bin when it was full.

The pail comes fully assembled
The pail can hold up to 30 diapers
Each refill seals up to 100 diapers
The film contains built-in antimicrobial protection
The color indicator in the film lets you know when you’re running low
The film is made from easy to tear material, making emptying the diaper pail quick and simple
EasiSlide drawer for easy emptying

I have been very happy with the  Tommee Tippee 360° sealer. This is a great  and affordable way to hide stinky diapers and keep away the smell.

Babi-Kini Review

When we added a hot tub to our back yard several years ago, I went on a bathing suit shopping spree. Now I probably own more than I should. But, when it comes to my kids, I always just let them in with me in their diapers designed for swimming.

I had the opportunity to try a Babi-Kini recently and fell in love with the cute designs. First of all, my Babi-Kini came in the mail with a cute little gift back to put it in. I had a little difficulty packing the itty bitty bikini in the package, but once it was in there I was a little giddy. It was such a cute way to present a gift to someone.

Then there was the actual Babi-Kini. I never thought of putting my child in a teeny bikini. She is so small that it never crossed my mind. But the Babi-Kini is just too cute. If I can have a stash of bikinis in my drawer, my daughter should too.

The Babi-kini has a few bonuses that should be recognized too. First, they are made in the USA. That is such a rare find anymore that I give them a big thumbs up for that! The other thing that I found with the Bai-kini is that they are slightly adjustable. As your child grows, you can loosen the ties on the Babi-kini to allow for a little bit of growth. That is nice for me as a parent since kids grow like weeds. The last feature that I want to point out is the quality of the Babi-Kini. The stitching is straight, the material is high quality and fairly thick for a bathing suit, and the beading addition on the ties are very cute.

Look how cute that is!! I know that summer has come and gone, but there is still an opportunity to wear a bathing suit. My daughter is wearing hers anytime she is in the hot tub and I know that it will be packed with me when we take our next beach trip.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Pampers Daylight Savings Sleep Tips and Giveaway #PampersSleepChat #DDDivas

Disclaimer: This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Loving her Children's Place Jammies

Daylight Savings time is just around the corner. If you are anything like me, you know that the time change turns your families sleep routine upside down. If you have a child in diapers in your home, you also know that it means you need a quality diaper to make it through the long dark hours of Daylight Savings. With a child in home home that has diagnosed insomnia, I personally dread this time of year.

I really only wanted to provide a few tips to help other mother's out there. Unfortunately, I could not eliminate any of the ten tips, I think that they all have the potential to help mothers out there with children that are 5 months and older.  Not all of them will work for my daughter or son, but they may benefit you in some way. So here they are:

10 Daylight Savings Sleep Tips for Baby

By Kim West, LCSW-C, Sleep Lady Solutions, LLC,  copyright 2013

Daylight savings time ends on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 a.m. Most of us will be rolling our clocks back an hour, which can cause sleep problems, and in many cases, early rising. This is common due to the simple fact that once we fall back, 6:30 a.m. suddenly becomes 5:30 a.m., but there are things that you can do to adjust to the time change gradually so that your children do not need to make a large adjustment. Please note that the following advice pertains to babies 5 months and older. Babies younger than 4 months do not have fully developed sleep patterns. Older toddlers and preschoolers may be able to make that hour jump right away away IF they are well napped and already well rested, and therefore may not need to be gradually migrated for the time change.

To help your family make a smooth transition, here are 10 tips that you can implement starting now to make a smooth transition as we fall back one hour:

1.      Many parents dread this time change as their children will be waking up even earlier, and previous early rising issues can become big problems. To help make ensure that your baby’s sleep doesn’t go completely off the rails, make a slow transition.  Make a point to slowly adjust your child’s bedtime and naptimes an hour earlier, just 15-30 minutes a day for a few days before daylight savings ends. This way, your child will already be adjusted to the time change.  While you’re adjusting naps and bedtime, make sure that you also adjust mealtimes in 10-15 minute increments to help ease the transition.
2.      For children under 4 years old,  its essential that  we  make naps a priority this time change. Quality nighttime sleep is dependent upon good daytime sleep. Make sure that your children are well-napped during the day so that when the time change takes effect having a later-feeling bedtime isn’t as much of an issue. Between naps, make sure that your children are exposed to plenty of natural light; open the curtains, take an afternoon walk, or just play outside. To help your children adjust, about 30-45 minutes before naps and an hour before bedtime. Close the curtains, dim the lights and follow your soothing sleep routine. If you find that your baby is still having trouble with sleep even after a good day of naps, you may need to temporarily add a third late-afternoon nap, of no more than 45 minutes to help make sure that your baby isn’t overtired at bedtime.
3.      To help your baby sleep more soundly, consider installing blackout curtains and using a sound machine. Although the days are getting shorter, there may still be some natural light present, especially in the morning as well as noise when you put your baby to bed. To mitigate these, install blackout curtains and use a sound machine to help buffer outside light and sound. Black out shades are great for children with early rising issues, which is often a problem after the fall time change, especially if your child was already getting up before  6:00 a.m.
4.      While preparing for the time change (and after), use dramatic wake up to help your children adjust to the change. It’s entirely possible that after the change your baby may be waking earlier than normal. If this is the case, keep your baby’s room dark and quiet, and use a gentle method to encourage your child to go back to sleep; you may need to check on your baby and reassure that all is well, and remind them that it’s not quite time to wake up. At this point, you can either sit on a chair near the door or leave the room and do timed checks. If your child is over 2.5 years old, I recommend that you purchase a toddler clock or wake up alarm that signals them when its time to get up and start the day, as this will help your toddler stay in bed (and hopefully fall back asleep) until  at least 6:00 a.m., at which time you open the blinds and make a big deal of “good morning”. Make sure that you expose your baby to lots of natural light first thing in the morning to help reset his circadian rhythm to coincide with the new time.
5.      Watch your baby’s wakefulness windows. Children have a limited window of wakefulness (the time that they can be awake and alert without meltdowns) between naps and bedtimes. Make sure that you watch your baby for sleepy cues carefully. Make sure that you’re changing your baby’s diaper right before your child goes into the crib for naps or bedtime. Keeping your child dry will help to prevent unnecessary night awakenings, and help to ensure a happy, well-rested baby the next day.
6.      Get outside. It’s getting colder, so bundle everyone up and take a morning walk, just 20 or 30 minutes to make sure that you and your baby get some sunshine, which will help your circadian rhythm adjust to the time change. If you can’t manage a morning walk, make sure that the blinds are open as you start your day, and keep them open up to 45 minutes before nap and bedtimes to help your child adjust to the time change.
7.      Stick to your flexible schedule. If you always have breakfast at 8:00 a.m., then keep your schedule, but make sure that you are following it according to the time change. You can start slowly adjusting your daily schedule forward in 10-15 minute increments 4-5 days before the time change. So if you normally have lunch at 11:30, on Wednesday, have lunch at 11:40, on Thursday, move lunch to 11:50 and so on. The same goes for naps and bedtimes. The idea is that when the time change takes effect your child’s circadian rhythm, or internal clock will already be in sync with the change.
8.      The end of daylight savings is a good time to make sure that your child’s bedtime is age-appropriate. Infants and babies do best with a bedtime between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. Later bedtimes have shown to have a negative effect on children’s attitudes and their ability to focus, and can result in instances of early rising. If you find that your baby has been going to bed too early or too late, take advantage of the time change to gradually shift bedtime (back or forward in 15-30 minute increments over the next week).
9.      To ensure that your children know when it’s time to sleep, rely on your established soothing bedtime routine. Routines are comforting for children, so make sure that you keep your baby’s routine the same, although you will be starting it a bit later due to the time change. Make sure that you are changing your baby’s diaper right before you tuck them into the crib to help prevent wet diapers at night and unnecessary nighttime awakenings. If your baby often has diapers that leak during the night and require a change, please make sure to use overnight diapers that can keep your baby dry for up to 12 hours to help limit your baby’s sleep disturbances.
10.  If you do have  a child who is getting up before 6:00 a.m., make sure that you respond to early risings quickly and consistently. Although you may sail through the time change, some babies will have trouble with early rising for a few days. Respond to these awakenings quickly, gently resettling your baby so that sleep comes easier. Be careful to make sure that your baby is actually awake before you go help, however, as you don’t want to create a new sleep crutch which would cause your baby to rely on you to get back to sleep. Remember to utilize dramatic wake up once 6:30 a.m. rolls around!

If you do nothing else to prepare for the time change, make sure that your children have had adequate naps in the days leading up to the time change, and help to prevent unnecessary night awakenings by putting your baby into a clean, dry diaper right before you settle them into the crib for the night.

Infant/Toddler costume Review

Disclaimer: I received the product described below free of charge to facilitate this review. All opinions are by own.

With Halloween right around the corner, there could not be a better time to test out costumes, so when I was given an opportunity to review an infant/ toddler costume, I jumped at the chance.

Costume Discounters has an extensive choice of infant and toddler costumes.
I chose to review the Pinky Winky Infant Costume since I have a couple of little monsters running around my home.Once the costume arrived, I immediately opened it and started to play dress up with my 5 month old. That is what everyone does right?

Once I pulled the costume out of the package, I was immediately impressed with the quality. Some of the costumes that I have seen lately in retail stores have been just simple T-shirts and thin pants or tights. The Pinky Winky Infant costume is not either of those. It is made of a nice fluffy material and was decorated as I expected. The only thing I noticed, is that the costume needed a good shaking before actually putting it on my child to get off the loose fuzz, but that was quick and easy to resolve.

The feet of the costume are designed to look like little monster feet but the actual pads on the bottom are made with gripping material to keep your young child from slipping.  I think my favorite feature of this costume is the velcro openings. The back has a smaller velcro piece that opens up to allow for easy application over a child's head. There is also velco pieces along both legs to allow you to easily put the costume on a child or quickly change a diaper without removing the entire costume.

Did you know monsters had dimples?
The Pinky Winky infants costume is just as cute on my child as it is shown on the website directly. I could not have asked for or picked a better costume to fit my little girl's personality.
